Specialization and Research Interests
Professor Scarano's main research and teaching area is the hisotyr of the Caribbean region, with emphasis on the Spanish-speaking nations and, particularly, on Puerto Rico. Some of the topics hes as worked on include slavery, plantation ecomony and society, peasantry's and the influence of racial imagery on nation-building.
