Chican@ Latin@ Student Association ~ ChiLaCSA
Who are we?
We are an academic association that is affiliated with the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program. ChiLaCSA serves as the certificate student's voice in the decision-making process in the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program, and we promote academic and cultural events focused on Chicano/a and Latino/a heritage. ChiLaCSA is open to all students who are interested in learning more about Chicana/o and Latina/o culture and traditions. We have members who serve and vote on the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Curriculum Committee and the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Student-Faculty Liaison Committee and who participate in a multitude of community service events. To be a voting member you must be a student who is a declared Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Certificate candidate.

Event Co-Sponsorships
One of the ways that ChiLaCSA has raised awareness and provided programming has been through co-sponsorship of events. In October of 2005, ChiLaCSA was involved with MadFTAA and other groups in bringing Jill Friedberg, a well known documentary filmmaker; to the University. Friedberg brought her newest film called “Granito de arena,” which deals with the dismantling of public education in Mexico.
Another co-sponsorship ChiLaCSA participated in was the celebration for “El día de los muertos,” or The Day of the Dead, alongside MECHA. This event was a success in bringing people of different ethnicities together to learn about Mexican traditions and culture.
Our final co-sponsorship for the academic year of 2005-2006 was with Union Puertorriqueña for the celebration of Puerto Rican Heritage Month. In this event ChiLaCSA helped fund their activities and advertise the event.
